Horses of a Different Color

My goals in this art piece were to create vividly colored drawings from images that consisted of neutral tones and to create images with stark contrast. I accomplished my goals by avoiding neutral colors and by leaving the background white so that it could contrast with the rainbow horses. I was surprised by how much I improved throughout the course of creating these drawings. Each drawing I did to continue the series was better than the last. However, there were some challenges. One problem I had throughout this series was blending the colors. Throughout the process of creating this series I constantly faced the issue of the colors not coming together. I overcame this issue by using a color that joined the others together, in some images that color was blue, in others it was pink or yellow. I shifted over to the artistic right brain thinking when I used a variety of colors that others would not think would work together to create a 3D image. I also shifted to artistic thinking when I cropped my images to create an interesting composition. A dull pencil makes a dull line. When in doubt, sketch it out. Draw a picture of what makes you truly happy and you will go far. Draw the things that make you happiest. I feel like my drawing really works in the image of the horse's ears. I think that the eyes in that image really came together how I had envisioned. From this art piece, I have learned how to use colors to create realistic images. I feel that I can use this skill in future drawings to enhance an image and make it my own. From Murphy, I learned how to crop an image to create an interesting composition. She had suggested to use an image consisting of only the top half of a horse's face to bring the other drawings in my series together. I used her suggestion and I feel like that image became one of my favorite pieces. If I could have a do-over, I would redo the drawing of the horse's muzzle. I feel like that drawing didn't quite work with the others and that I could have added more detail. I feel that the best thing about my art is how colorful and vibrant all of the drawings are.
