Self Portrait

My goal in this artwork was to make an art piece that correctly portrayed me. I accomplished my goal by referring to my reference picture constantly and by focusing on shadow and highlight. The most surprising thing about my experience doing this drawing was how difficult it was to switch from drawing lines to drawing shadows. This was also the most difficult challenge I had to face. I faced this challenge by drawing upside down for a portion of this art piece and by focusing on sections of the piece instead of on the whole picture. This was also how I switched from left to right brain. A dull pencil makes a dull art piece. When in doubt, draw it out. Draw what challenges you and you will go far. Draw the things that seem difficult. I think the eye really works in my drawing. From this drawing, I have learned how to focus on light not lines. From Suoyi, I learned how to focus on light and shadows. If I had a do-over, I would make my cheek thinner and the lines around my mouth lighter and less "puppet-looking". I think the best thing about my artwork is the hair.
